Kayak east instructional classes offer a progression of skills, like building blocks, that help construct a framework for more fun and safer kayaking.
We are enthusiastic and patient teachers, certified by the American Canoe Association (ACA). In addition to possessing the skills to demonstrate proper technique, ACA certification means that we are trained in a wide range of teaching and communication methods so that, through our classes, you will gain the confidence and skills you’ve been looking for!
Our kayak classes are held at Assunpink Lake, Lake Hopatcong, Green Turtle Pond and the Delaware River. Please see our class descriptions below or the price chart. You can find these locations on our map and a calendar of events.

Outdoor classes
(May-Sep)
Intro to
Paddling, 9am to 4pm (1 hr lunch break) $100
In
the morning, you will learn kayaking terms and basic boat design, how
to get into and out of a kayak, correct paddle handling, forward,
reverse, turning and draw strokes and safety skills. In the afternoon,
after you practice what you have learned on a short paddle, we'll
introduce the wet exit and assisted re-entry (we
strongly recommend everybody try this during class!).
Assunpink Lake
Sat Jun 19, Sat Jul 24, Sat Aug 21, Sat Sep 11
Lake Hopatcong Sat May 22, Sat Jun 5, Sat Jul 10, Sat Aug 7
Intermediate
Paddling Skills, 9am to 4pm (1 hr lunch break)
$100
Challenge yourself to achieve
more in your paddling endeavors! We'll start the day with a brief review
of the basics. Then, we'll learn boat lean (edging), hip snap and
bracing. These skills are the foundation of a good Eskimo roll. We'll combine these skills with the basics to learn new maneuvers
including bow rudder and low brace turns. With these skills you'll
achieve the comfort level and boat control necessary to paddle more
challenging waters.
